Board Meeting Overview
August 7, 2020
The regular meeting of the Board was held virtually last Tuesday evening with over 80 members participating. We appreciate the expanded participation the virtual meetings allow. At the meeting we received a “clean” annual audit for last year, approved funding for some of our ongoing projects, as well as changes to the committee policy and charters, adjustments in our fines for dog related violations, revisions to entry rules, permanent changes to sign and flags rules, and an addition to the Purchasing policy. The consideration of Board Action Items was followed by discussion on three topics under consideration by the Board; recognizing outstanding members of the community, rules for use of the North Lake area, and an announcement about a Security Contract RFP workshop on August 25. Please refer to the Board page for more information.
Security is a key benefit of Canyon Lake and one that we take very seriously. We contract with a company to provide Community Patrol Services and depend on the City and Riverside county for security and public safety. The Community Patrol Service contract is scheduled to be renewed this fall. The Staff and Board have considered what needs to be changed in the contract and have drafted an RFP. Enforcing our rules by the Community Patrol is the fundamental tool we have to preserve the peaceful enjoyment of our community.
The workshop on August 25 will be an opportunity for us to share with you the changes that are being proposed after reviewing the current program, positions, areas of responsibility, and cost. As you can imagine, it is a balancing act to determine how best to use the patrol team we have while keeping the cost in line. After the presentation, there will be ample time to hear from members of the community about their concerns and opinions about the changes that are proposed. We hope you will attend or write your thoughts to us at board@canyonlakepoa.com.
