Rules For Using North Ski Area - Call For Task Force Members
August 14, 2020
The Board’s discussion about the North Ski area at the last open session validated that the current rules governing the use of the areas need to be reviewed and updated to reflect the current use for multiple water sports. The Board appreciates all the input received during and after the discussion and recognizes that priority needs to be given to the use of the slalom course and the needs of the competition skiers for which the area was originally developed. Fortunately, ski course users require calm air and flat water and their use is normally limited to the morning hours and just before sunset. These areas are also used for wake boarding, wake surfing, Show Cal Skiers practice sessions, kayaking, swimming and fishing.
The President of the Board has decided to appoint and lead a task force of community members to develop and recommend a set of rules regulating the use of the areas that honor their primary use and the developing needs of the other uses. The task force will be comprised of representatives of the four related clubs, Ski, Wake Board, Show Cal Skiers, and Bass Masters that have been nominated by each group as well as a number of community members-at-large that represent the various users that are not club members.
If you are interested in participating as a member-at-large, please email the President, Chris Poland, at cpoland@canyonlakepoa.com to volunteer and indicate your use of the area. The appointed task force will represent a balance of the users from the community and use a secret balloting process to determine the final recommendation that will go to the Board. One received and accepted, the Board will post for a 28 day reading and subsequent approval, hopefully by the end of the year.
