Each month, a member of the Canyon Lake community is selected to be recognized for their outstanding service and dedication to enhancing the life and spirit of Canyon Lake.

May 2026

Diana Gallagher

The May Member of the Month is Diana Gallagher. Diana moved to Canyon Lake in 2002 and shortly thereafter developed an interest in line dancing, leading to teaching opportunities in and around Canyon Lake. In 2013, the Canyon Lake POA was privileged to discover Diana's expertise and recruited her to teach line dancing at the Lodge with smashing success. Diana's twice-a-week line dancing classes were a member-favorite for over a decade, drawing significant and consistent attendance. Students from all skill levels have been on record delivering heartfelt testimonials as to the enjoyment they have received from participating in Diana's classes. We thank Diana for this invaluable service of providing joy and healthy, fun exercise to our community.


April 2026

Monica Lyons

The April Member of the Month is Monica Lyons. Monica moved to Canyon Lake in 2019 and actively involved herself in the community almost immediately. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she volunteered with the Family Matters Club in identifying residents (primarily elderly) who needed sunshine during the lockdown. She and her husband have leveraged several of their businesses to support local nonprofits and individuals, including the City of Canyon Lake Turkey Drive in conjunction with Helping Hands and the pet blanket drive for Animal Friends of the Valley.

Monica's inspiring and deeply moving compassion and service have become a cornerstone in our community.


March 2026

David Humphrey

The March Member of the Month is David Humphrey. Dave moved to Canyon Lake in 1986 and quickly became a volunteer across the community. He has supported the Family Matters Club; has provided first aid at Canyon Lake POA and City of Canyon Lake events; and still trains and serves in the community's emergency response team. in 2021, Dave joined the Architectural Control Committee (ACC) and now serves as the chairperson, requiring two full days of volunteer time per week. He has approached this responsibility with fairness, steadiness, and a solutions-oriented mindset. We thank Dave for his leadership, steady judgment, and continued commitment to protecting and improving our community.

Todd and Lori Stover

The Member of the Month for February are Todd and Lori Stover. In partnership with the Canyon Lake Library, the Stovers are responsible for the Kindles for Kids program, which encourages reading for children and teenagers by awarding Kindles to winners of their reading challenges. Grateful to give back to the communities that have played a crucial part in their lives, the Stovers are active volunteers in Canyon Lake, joining clubs like the Canyon Lake Car Club and investing in the local community. We thank them for their dedication to improving our community.


January 2026

Paul Hawker

The January Member of the Month is Paul Hawker. Paul served three years as the Pickleball Club President, helping grow participation, recruit new members, and strengthen overall use of the courts as the sport continued to gain momentum in the community. He now continues to serve the community by being a member of both the Senior Work Group and Recreation Committee. He also remains an active member of the Pickleball Club and is involved with both the Canyon Lake Guild and the Canyon Lake Yacht Club. Through the Yacht Club in particular, he participates in nearly every event, including the Parade of Lights, and consistently goes above and beyond by donating free boat rides to Canyon Lakers who do not own boats. He also helps ferry residents to and from the Lodge during major events like Fiesta Day and HarborFest.

December 2025

Jeannie Hoonirun

The December Member of the Month is Jeannie Hoonirun. Jeannie embodies the very best of Canyon Lake: compassion, service, dedication, and a genuine love for her community. Her instinct to care for others is ever present, as she is always the first to step forward to help anyone with hardship, offering her comforting presence and trademark positivity, coordinating meals, and more. Jeannie's volunteer work is broad and heartfelt and includes judging Woman's Club Holiday Home Tour entrants, fulfilling children's Letters to Santa, organizing etiquette classes for local youth, and volunteering at many events. For her extraordinary passion and unwavering dedication, we thank Jeannie and her selfless support of our community.


November 2025

Craig & Tricia Brown and Kalon & Jessica Morris

The November Members of the Month are Craig and Tricia Brown and Kalon and Jessica Morris in recognition of their creativity and community spirit in creating the Canyon Lake Yacht Club Dock-or-Treat event. What began as an idea between friends grew into one of the most beloved community traditions, expanding to include over 26 houses, forty-plus Halloween-themed boats, and dozens of decorated docks. This safe, family-friendly alternative to crowded neighborhoods also includes houses that normally don't receive trick-or-treaters, allowing more of the community to participate. We thank Craig and Tricia Brown and Kalon and Jessica Morris for finding this creative use of our main community amenity and creating a tradition that fosters connection, inclusion, and pride across Canyon Lake.


October 2025

Fine Arts Guild

The October Member of the Month is the Fine Arts Guild. Started in 2001 with the intention of offering a wide range of musical events, the Guild has provided years of high-quality concerts by cover bands and has amassed over 200 members. In 2017, the Guild created HarborFest to provide a free concert to the whole community, inaugurating their now-annual event with a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. In addition to providing entertainment to the community, the club's philanthropic efforts include giving out scholarships, contributing to other clubs, and donating $25,000 for the Holiday Harbor amphitheater and $10,000 to install the new sound system in the Holiday Bay Room at the Canyon Lake Lodge. The current board for the Guild consists of Bonnie Dubbs, Larry Garland, Chris Papavero, Cindy Cameron, Ira Strickland, Brian Wood, and Casey Castillo. We thank and honor the club's significant contributions over the last 24 years with this award.


September 2025

Janine Schrufer

The September Member of the Month is Janine Schrufer. Janine built her first house in Canyon Lake in 1976, then moved into her second home in Canyon Lake in 1989. Janine has been an active member at the Senior Center for many years. She participated in the Mexican Train Group and served on the Senior Center Board, where she oversaw membership. She also volunteered with the Thursday Work Group, helping to set up and clean up activities such as the annual Holiday Boutique. For twenty years, she contributed to the Senior Center Christmas event, and she was also a founding member of the Chair Volleyball Club. In addition to her affiliation with clubs, Janine served as a member on the Recreation Committee for several years. We thank her for her dedication and selflessness in investing in the Canyon Lake community for over fifty years.


August 2025

Kyler Battleson

The August Member of the Month is Kyler Battleson. Raised in Canyon Lake, Kyler is one of the hardest-working real estates agents in the area, serving as an ambassador for Canyon Lake. Kyler's dedication runs deep through generous donations and hands-on involvement, such as volunteering for the Mermaids of Canyon Lake Dunk Tank Fundraiser; donating containers of water for Fiesta Day and water and fishnets for the Lake Cleanup Day; sponsoring the Canyon Lake Little League and JDI dancer costumes; and more. With heart, humility, and contagious energy, Kyler consistently shows up for our community. We thank him for his commitment, generosity, and unwavering love for Canyon Lake.


July 2025

Robert Mora

The July Member of the Month is Rob Mora. Rob is a dedicated and community-minded resident whose impact can be seen across Canyon Lake. As Commodore of the Canyon Lake Yacht Club, following his previous role as Vice Commodore, Rob has played a key role in strengthening the club’s presence and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment for all members. His leadership has helped the Yacht Club grow into a vibrant organization that brings people together through events and shared experiences on the lake. Rob is always among the first to step up and lend a hand, and his unwavering commitment to volunteering and helping others has made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him.


June 2025

Doug Schultz

The June Member of the Month is Doug Schultz. For over 20 years, Doug has been organizing music events, including our beloved Concerts at the Lodge. His connections to the music industry have been instrumental in bringing top-tier talent to our community for over a decade of standout performances. Doug was the driving force behind CountryFest over Memorial Weekend, which was a smashing success far exceeding expectations. Doug's dedication to providing entertainment to the community is self-evident in the high-quality shows he puts on.


May 2025

Jack Wamsley

May's Member of the Month is Jack Wamsley. Jack has been a fixture in Canyon Lake for over 40 years, contributing enormously to the development of our community. When appointed to the Board of Directors, he became a driving force, spearheading the campaign to make Canyon Lake a city and subsequently serving as a charter member of the City Council in 1990 for a total of three terms. Jack was also instrumental in several upgrades and projects in Canyon Lake, including installing the fuel station at campground, leading the charge for the emergency golf cart at the golf course, and assisting in the golf course irrigation project. Characterized as a "bulldog" when getting things done, Jack is a consummate volunteer and an exemplary member of the community.


April 2025

Maxine Whalen

The Member of the Month for April is Maxine Whalen. Maxine has been an integral part of Canyon Lake since moving here in 1996. Maxine quickly joined several clubs, including the Women's Golf Club, for which she became president in 2006. In 2010 and again in 2016 — at 84 years old — she won the President's Cup and was also awarded the Women's Golf Club Above and Beyond Award in 2015. Maxine brought the Meals on Wheels program to Canyon Lake from 2010 to 2013 to provide meals to the senior citizens of our community, and in 2020, she founded the Friends of the Lighthouse group. Each month, this group meets at the Lighthouse Restaurant to increase the restaurant's patronage. Not only is she active in the community, but she is also an active person; she is still seen playing on the golf course 2 to 3 times a week. Her strong support for the community makes her an invaluable member of Canyon Lake.


March 2025

Michael Shroyer

The March Member of the Month is Michael Shroyer. Mike has been involved in the community for nearly 30 years since arriving in Canyon Lake — so much so, he is known as DJ Mike for all the events he has deejayed. Many of Canyon Lake's traditions over the last few decades can be traced back to him, from park and pool movie nights to Fiesta Day. He spent over twenty-five years on the Fiesta Day Committee and started the Street Carts of Canyon Lake club twenty years ago with the express purpose of raising funds for the needy. The Canyon Lake Toy Drive & Christmas Parade is in large part his creation; today, he still runs the toy drive himself. Mike's generous and service-oriented spirit is reflected in his eagerness to participate in fundraisers and help where he can, making him a crucial member of the Canyon Lake community.


February 2025

Ronda McCord

The Member of the Month for February is Ronda McCord. Ronda moved to Canyon Lake in late 2020 and immediately immersed herself in the community by joining the Mermaids of Canyon Lake club, four quilting clubs, a book club, and the sewing club at the Senior Center. While there, she became part of the Canyon Lake Patriot Quilters club, a group of 15 women who create beautiful, hand-made patriotic quilts they donate to veterans in the community. Ronda has led the club for the last five years, transforming it from a hobby group donating one to two quilts a year to a passionate project that now makes and donates one quilt per month. Her selfless dedication to creating art for others to bring beauty to their lives makes her an invaluable member to our community.


January 2025

Brian Wood

The Member of the Month for January is Brian Wood. Brian relocated to Canyon Lake six years ago. His fervent belief that the dedication of volunteers is what makes Canyon Lake such a special community has led him to serve on the Appeals committee, for which he is now Chairman, and the Canyon Lake Arts Guild, where he is the Director of Programs and Director of Membership, bringing live music to the lake. He also provides assistance to the Family Matters Club with their events and is an active member of the Yacht Club and the Car Club, recently becoming the proud owner of a classic Corvette. We are grateful for Brian's incredible dedication and service to our community!

December 2024

Jim Lippen

The member of the month for December is Jim Lippen. Jim, a proud Marine Corps veteran, has been an integral part of the Canyon Lake community for decades. As a longtime resident since 1969, he has contributed to various community projects, including grading land for Indian Beach Condos and the golf course channel. Jim’s involvement spans numerous clubs, including the Men’s Golf Club, TWG, and Roadrunners, where his leadership and commitment have left a lasting impact. Additionally, he has volunteered with POA projects, parades, and holiday events. We are grateful for Jim’s incredible service and dedication to our community!


November 2024

Perry Beggs

The member of the month for November is Perry Beggs. Perry is most recognizable as the president of the Car Club, where his helpful and giving attitude have been instrumental in his efforts to grow the club. The success of his endeavors has fostered a sense of community among individuals who would never have otherwise crossed paths. Outside of the Car Club, Perry's compassion for others manifests in his aid and contribution to charitable organizations, such as Helping Hands. He has also volunteered with the Family Matters Club, with several other clubs and organizations, and at the Canyon Lake Guild's annual Harborfest event. We are grateful for Perry's selfless community involvement.


October 2024

Ilyssa DeCasperis

October's Member of the Month is Ilyssa DeCasperis. Since moving to Canyon Lake in 2017 from New York, she made numerous contributions to the community. She was one of the founding organizers of the 9/11 Tribute services in Canyon Lake, and she not only suggested a rewards program for e-bike safety launched this year but also donated to it. In 2022, she was named as one of six Women of Impact by the American Heart Association, for whom she raised $25,000 without corporate sponsors. Additionally, Ilyssa joined the Appeals Committee and the Canyon Lake Car Club. Her desire for anonymity when donating funds to various causes and organizations is a testament to her selflessness. Unfortunately, Ilyssa passed away on September 20 of this year. She is survived by her husband, Chris, and her son, Joseph.


September 2024

Houria Bellili

September's Member of the Month is Houria Bellili. Born and raised in Algeria, Houria graduated at 16 and enlisted in the Foreign Legion, eventually serving on the antiterrorism unit for eight years. Since coming to Canyon Lake in 2007, Houria has been actively involved in the community, supporting a variety of events including Rocktoberfest, Parade of Frights, the Holiday Boat Parade, and several golf tournaments. As the owner of the Sports Stop Pub & Grill since 2016, she catered a taco dinner for 75 members at the Senior Center in June and has planned a spaghetti dinner in September. In addition to her work in the community, Houria received the Jordan Ehrenkranz Spirit Award from the City in 2023 for embodying community spirit and selflessly devoting her time to the community.


July 2024

Joe Grasso

July's Member of the Month is Joe Grasso. Joe moved to Canyon Lake in 1995 and immediately joined the Bassmasters, serving as board member, secretary, treasurer, vice president, and president in the years since. His involvement in the community quickly spread to other committees, including the Recreation Committee. For over 19 years, he also sat on the Fiesta Day Committee and served as Chair for four years.

In addition to volunteering on committees, Joe has offered his services to the community to further help Canyon Lake. Joe runs a printing company that has been serving the community with high-quality signage since 2002. Renowned for his rapid turnaround times, Joe consistently delivers exceptional signage that meets urgent needs without compromising on quality. Joe's eagerness to contribute to Canyon Lake in any way he can has made him a vital member to our community.


June 2024

Steve Libring

June's Member of the Month, Steve Libring, has been a cornerstone of the Canyon Lake community for decades. As a member of the Facilities Planning Committee for over five years, Steve has played a pivotal role in shaping the long-term vision of our community. His expertise and dedication have also greatly benefited the Security Advisory Committee. Additionally, he is involved with numerous clubs in Canyon Lake. Notably, Steve is widely recognized for his enthusiastic support of the Pickleball Club, playing a key role in their growth to over 500 members! This recognition celebrates Steve's outstanding service and dedication to enhancing the life and spirit of Canyon Lake.


May 2024

Valerie Montgomery

May's Member of the Month is Valerie Montgomery. Retiring from a successful career as a corporate executive secretary in early 2000, Valerie moved to Canyon Lake in 2004 and quickly became an active member of the community. As a longtime member of the Travel Club, she served three years as chairman, organizing many fun trips. Her largest passion is for golf; Valerie has been a member for 20 years in the Women's Golf Club and served in many positions on the board, going so far as to lead the club as president in 2014. Valerie was also appointed to the Green Committee as the Women's Golf Club representative and became chairman in 2013, serving for 10 years. Under her supervision, maintenance of the golf course has become paramount. Additionally, she was a strong advocate for non-resident annual golf memberships back in 2015, helping to establish the membership program that continues to this day. Valerie's dedication and commitment to the golf course and to Canyon Lake has significantly enriched the community.


April 2024

Larry Garland

April's Member of the Month is Larry Garland, a beloved and active member whose presence has left a strong mark on the community. Known affectionately as "Larry the Cable Guy" for his staggering expertise in the audio-visual world, Larry has been a staple of the community since 2010. His passion for singing led him to the Canyon Lake Choraleers, marking a grand shift in community-led vocal performances over the years. For the past eight, Larry has championed the Choraleers as their President, enlivening the community with sweeping musical events.

Eager to follow his musical passions, Larry became a publicity director for the Canyon Lake Guild and quickly worked his way up to Vice President and Director of Operations. He has been instrumental in booking the bands that appear at the Guild concerts, enriching the community with a variety of musical talents. Larry can often be found wrestling with the wires in the sound booths at Guild concerts and even worked on the Sunset Lounge and Terrace sound systems — a testament to how hands-on he is in the community.

Shawna Bowen

Shawna Bowen was selected as March's Member of the Month. A Canyon Lake resident since 2009, Shawna's exemplary leadership shines brightly, notably marked by her founding of the Family Matters Club in 2014. Under her guidance, this family-focused club has consistently provided members with enriching, cost-effective events and activities year-round. Celebrating its ten-year milestone, the club thrives under her steadfast leadership.

Yet Shawna's influence doesn't stop there. She seamlessly transitions into pivotal roles within the Women's Club and the Yacht Club, showcasing her adaptability and dedication across diverse groups. Moreover, her active participation in the Car Club, Canyon Lake Guild, and Travel Club further underscores her unwavering commitment to community involvement and enhancement.

Jeannette Williams

February's Member of the Month is Jeannette Williams, a humble yet influential figure whose dedication has left an indelible mark on Canyon Lake.

In 2015, Jeannette spearheaded a solo campaign to introduce our community to pickleball. Her infectious enthusiasm for the sport sparked widespread interest, leading to the establishment of the Pickleball Club and the creation and expansion of Pickleball Courts at Eastport Park, which enhance the lives of over 500 members today.

But it's not just pickleball where Jeannette shines; she has immersed herself in all aspects of Canyon Lake life. From joining clubs like the Women's Club and Yacht Club to serving on various committees and boards, her dedication to our community is unparalleled.


January 2024

Ron Wilbur

Ron Wilbur was recognized as January's Member of the Month for his remarkable contributions to the community through his exceptional leadership of the Canyon Lake Yacht Club, where membership grew by 650% under his guidance.

Throughout his tenure, Ron demonstrated unwavering dedication to enhancing the club's profile and activities, organizing 44 events in 2023, including the inaugural Commodores Ball, the traditional Blessing of the Boats ceremony, and the enchanting Parade of Lights. These events, along with a diverse range of activities such as moonlit cruises, potlucks, swimming, and picnics, have transformed the Yacht Club into a vibrant center of social and recreational activity in Canyon Lake, enriching the lives of its members and the broader community.

Bonnie Dubbs & Doug Schultz

As December's Members of the Month, Bonnie Dubbs and Doug Schultz are shining examples of passion, dedication, and community spirit. Their tireless efforts to enrich the cultural landscape of Canyon Lake through music are truly commendable, and their impact will continue to resonate for years to come.

Bonnie Dubbs, President of the Canyon Lake Guild, is a driving force behind the community's musical diversity. Under her leadership, the Guild offers five concert events annually, including the popular Harbor Fest. Bonnie ensures that the Guild remains responsive to evolving musical tastes, enriching the lives of Canyon Lake residents.

Doug Schultz, the visionary behind the Canyon Lake POA's Concerts at the Lodge series, has curated original nationally-known headlining bands in Canyon Lake for nearly a decade. With almost three decades of music industry experience, Doug brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his role. From classic rock to country and everything in between, he ensures each concert delivers an unforgettable auditory experience, fostering unity and joy in the community.
