Coyote Warning

Have you seen coyotes in and around Canyon Lake? April through August is peak season for coyote activity, as they are mating and actively foraging for food. During these months, they become more protective of dens and territory.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has a list of recommended management methods for dealing with coyotes during this season, as well as resources for understanding coyote behavior when they interact with humans. These include when to exercise caution around them and when to call 9-1-1. Visit their Human-Coyote Conflicts page to learn more.

Who to Call for Water Quality Concerns

Water quality in Canyon Lake can be affected by a variety of issues, including temperature, stormwater run-off, lake turnover, algae blooms, and changes in water clarity. Lake Elsinore and San Jacinto Watersheds Authority (LESJWA) is currently conducting additional water testing and analyzing samples taken from some of the fish. Generally, fish mortality is due to reduced or diffused oxygen levels in lake water, which can be caused by lake turnover or algae blooms. We will report back to the community when any test results are shared with us.

In the meantime, several different entities are responsible for different aspects of water quality in and for Canyon Lake. These include the Canyon Lake POA, LESJWA, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD), and the City of Canyon Lake. For details on the responsibilities of each and how to contact them for your specific concern, visit our Who to Call for Water Quality Concerns page.
