New State Law Impacts
Fine Limits for HOAs

On July 1, the California Legislature approved AB 130. Among other things, this new law limits fines for community associations to $100 unless violations threaten health or safety, complicating enforcement efforts across the state. This new law went into effect immediately and in response, the Canyon Lake POA is modifying its fine structure for the time being:

• Non-safety-related violations will now be capped at $100 to comply with the new law.
• Health and safety-related violations, such as reckless e-bike use or unsafe holiday behavior, will continue to carry fines beyond $100.

The emergency resolution tripling fines for safety related violations stands and will continue to have triple fines as outlined in the Board’s previously adopted resolution.
We will continue to monitor legislative developments and adjust as needed to ensure compliance with state law. Read and learn more on CAI-CLAC's webpage.
