Recognizing Greg Doherty

The Board of Directors took a moment at the May 5 Regular Session Board Meeting to recognize and thank Greg Doherty for his service as a Board Director over the past four years. Throughout his tenure, Greg brought a depth of expertise that proved invaluable in navigating complex issues with clarity and care. His insight helped guide thoughtful decisions that protected and strengthened the Canyon Lake POA. Greg consistently took the time to listen, to fully understand the perspectives around him, and to offer thoughtful, well-considered responses. In a role where voices can be many and opinions strong, his steady presence helped elevate Board discussions and decisions. His contributions' lasting impact have made a meaningful difference in our community. On behalf of the Board and the entire community, we thank Greg for his service, wisdom, and commitment.

Member of the Month

The May Member of the Month is Diana Gallagher. Diana moved to Canyon Lake in 2002 and shortly thereafter developed an interest in line dancing, leading to teaching opportunities in and around Canyon Lake. In 2013, the Canyon Lake POA was privileged to discover Diana's expertise and recruited her to teach line dancing at the Lodge with smashing success. Diana's twice-a-week line dancing classes were a member-favorite for over a decade, drawing significant and consistent attendance. Students from all skill levels have been on record delivering heartfelt testimonials as to the enjoyment they have received from participating in Diana's classes. We thank Diana for this invaluable service of providing joy and healthy, fun exercise to our community.

Pickleball Courts Resurfacing Project

The pickleball courts will be closed in phases from next Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 22, as part of a resurfacing project. At least two courts will remain open at all times during this period; the full schedule is available at the Pickleball Courts Resurfacing Project page.

Resurfacing rejuvenates the courts, improving playability and overall performance while addressing cracks, surface wear, and fading. This process also helps extend the lifespan of the courts, which typically require resurfacing every three to five years to maintain quality and durability.

Court availability can be viewed online through the pickleball cam.

Take a moment to learn how the seasonal layering of water in the lake affects oxygen levels, nutrient cycling, and algae growth in The Science of Lake Stratification.

You can also explore Storm Drains: The Hidden Pipes to the Lake, which reveals how everyday runoff from streets, lawns, and driveways flows untreated into the lake.

Canyon Lake POA Office
Memorial Day Hours

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, the Canyon Lake POA Offices are closed on Monday, May 25. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26.

We hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day!

Election

It's time to vote! As of May 7, we've received 662 ballots for our community election and 36 ballots for Tract 3961! To meet quorum, we need 1,600 ballot for the community election and 82 ballots for Tract 3961. If we do not meet quorum by May 13, an alternate date for the Annual Election will be held, which costs additional time and resources.

Ballots were emailed or mailed on Monday, April 13. For electronic ballots, please check your Spam or Junk folder and look for an email from Third Party Voting ([email protected]). A ballot box at Blue Bird Hall is available for collection of paper ballots. Paper ballots should be mailed no later than Wednesday, May 6, or delivered to the the ballot box at Blue Bird Hall no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 12.

- Ballot Measure -
IRS Revenue Rule 70-604

The IRS Revenue Tax Ruling 70-604 allows associations to avoid a tax consequence on any inadvertent excess member income that is applied to the following fiscal year assessment when filing a tax return Federal Form 1120.

This IRS Ballot Measure is considered an annual industry standard to allow for clear tax filing authorization should the Board decide to apply excess income to the following year's assessment.

- Ballot Measure -
Membership Quorum

This Membership Quorum measure would amend the Canyon Lake POA Bylaws to change the definition of membership quorum for elections. If approved, the change allows the total number of valid votes received by the designated election day to constitute a quorum. Meaning that quorum will always be achieved, regardless of the number of votes received, thus preventing membership meetings from being adjourned for lack of quorum.

The current bylaws require one-third of the voting power to constitute a quorum. Previous elections that did not meet quorum have resulted in adjournments, which cost additional time and resources.

- Ballot Measure -
Majority of Membership Voting Power for Sale of Common Area

This measure would amend the Canyon Lake POA Bylaws to require a majority of the membership's total voting power for the sale of any common area. If approved, the Canyon Lake POA would need at least 2,401 Lots voting to approve to sell any common area.

- Ballot Measure -
Tract 3961 CC&R Amendment

This measure would amend Tract 3961 (Fairway Estates) CC&Rs to change the 20-foot minimum parking setback from curb parking restriction for travel trailers, camper units, boat trailers, or other recreational vehicles to a 5-foot minimum parking setback from the curb.
