Lake Education Article
Nutrients: The Silent Drivers of Algae -

Learn more about our lake through our Lake Education Series! This new collection of articles, contributed by the Lake Advocacy Committee, explores the science behind Canyon Lake's health. Learn about algae, nutrients, watershed dynamics, and the practical steps you can take to help protect our lake.

Our second article, "Nutrients: The Silent Drivers of Algae," explores the root causes of harmful algal blooms and how everyday sources contribute to nutrient overload. It also highlights the role of alum treatments and how community actions can help reduce nutrient pollution at its source.

Member of the Month

The December Member of the Month is Jeannie Hoonirun. Jeannie embodies the very best of Canyon Lake: compassion, service, dedication, and a genuine love for her community. Her instinct to care for others is ever present, as she is always the first to step forward to help anyone with hardship, offering her comforting presence and trademark positivity, coordinating meals, and more. Jeannie's volunteer work is broad and heartfelt and includes judging Woman's Club Holiday Home Tour entrants, fulfilling children's Letters to Santa, organizing etiquette classes for local youth, and volunteering at many events. For her extraordinary passion and unwavering dedication, we thank Jeannie and her selfless support of our community.

Pavement Project Underway

The pavement improvement project is in progress throughout the community. Phase 3 is currently underway.

Phase 4 is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 8. Roads include Blackhorse Drive.

Affected streets will be closed on the remaining days from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with "No Parking" signs posted 48 hours in advance. Please avoid driving or walking on treated areas until barricades are removed to prevent damage.

The Canyon Lake POA is exploring ways to assist residents in navigating Blackhorse Drive during this phase; those residents will be notified accordingly.

Parade of Lights Access Notice

To help move holiday traffic more efficiently for residents, we are implementing a temporary gate plan in place on Saturday, December 13, for Parade of Lights from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. These adjustments are designed to streamline resident entry and reduce delays during peak hours.

• Main Gate: All lanes will be open for guest entry.
• East Gate: All lanes will be for Canyon Lake POA members only. Guests will be redirected to the Main Gate.
• North Gate: No changes; standard access for both members and guests.

As a reminder, if you are inviting guests into the community, please utilize GoAccess, which emails or texts your guests their pass and expedites their entry into the community. Also, please remember that service providers are not permitted into the community on Saturday, December 13. Note, that this does not apply to in-home healthcare services. If you have a service provider needing access to the community, please add them as a temporary guest for the day. For more about guest access, visit our Guest Access page.
